About Movable Type 5.2
In Movable Type 5.2, we aim to strengthen cloud computing environmental features and add support for the next generation of web servers, along with many other features based on requests we received from the Movable Type community.
These features will enable users to use Movable Type in cloud computing environments, allowing flexible system construction, on-demand system resources, and stable system operation.
Through this update, Movable Type will continue evolving into a flexible publishing platform capable of supporting any size blog; from small to corporate and everything in between.
Beta testing for Movable Type 5.2 will begin today, with the official release in fall.
We encourage you to try out the beta once it becomes available, and to send us feedback on your experience.
New features of Movable Type 5.2
Support for nginx+PSGI system environments
Nginx is a light web server which has recently come into the spotlight for its fast performance. PSGI (Perl Web Server Gateway Interface) is an interface that connects web applications and web servers. When used in combination with nginx, Movable Type can become lighter and run faster.
New rich text editor
Fully refined and easy to use; enables more efficient website management.
Site path restriction
To meet high-degree security policies, site paths can now be restricted when creating blogs or websites.
SMTP Authentication
Support is now available for sending email notifications using SMTP over SSL.
Improved performance of custom fields.
Reporting Bugs
As it is impossible for us to test Movable Type over all combinations of computing environments, the feedback we receive from testers is very important. Please don't hesitate to report any issues or bugs you encounter.
We look forward to hearing from you!

Great to hear that an upcoming release is being prepared! However, most of these seem to be server-side upgrades, and apart from a new editor, nothing else is new in terms of templating and user facing features. Will these come in a 5.3 release?
I’m particularly interested in fixing the issue I documented here: http://forums.movabletype.org/2011/06/archiving-across-multiple-blogs.html
I think this relates to this bug: https://movabletype.fogbugz.com/default.asp?104064
Sadly, it doesn’t look like a fix is slatted for 5.2 — any chance of changing that? In general, aggregating content across blogs is particularly difficult in MT at the moment; I’d love to see some improvements in that area.

I agree.
“aggregating content across blogs is particularly difficult in MT at the moment; I’d love to see some improvements in that area. “
It’s like there is a big wall between blogs. I would like to see this wall broken and be able to aggregate different data across blog ids.
MT should do more with customfields.
