The Movable Type 5.1 Beta 1 is now available to download and test. Today begins a 3-month period of beta releases and official quality assurance testing. We plan to release a new beta version every two weeks until the application is stable. Once stable, we will be creating release candidates. And we are hoping to offer a stable build by mid May.

Reporting Bugs
Your feedback is important to get Movable Type 5.1 ready for the final release. Without your feedback, it is almost impossible for developers to test the software in all of the various conditions that might occur. So please don't hesitate to create a new case.
We look forward to hearing from you !

I don’t have enough words to thank you for this release!
Those that cannot wait to test it could do so online at no charge from: http://www.movabletypedemo.org/
As I’ve mentioned to you on the ProNet listing the other day, I’ve been shocked and I’m still having that feeling, after viewing your product slideshow above about what is new in v5.1 and the upcoming plans for v5.2.
You’ve anticipated the need of developers with things like ordering categories and custom fields, as well as displaying custom fields / category and more.
What could be nicer than seeing a company releasing a product which covers the need of that product community?
Your plans for v5.2 show that you are indeed listening to your product’s community, where I have expressed my reservation for v5.x due to that imposed “parent website” architecture (as many other developers as well).
Seeing that you are going to stop imposing that approach from v5.2 gives me the faith that v5.2 would be a success.

I’m just playing with this release now, and wow; this is a really impressive release, even for the first beta! There seems no better way to instil confidence in a platform than to continually improve and iterate upon it, and this is a great first step. I just hope we might see similar improvements to the forums and bug-tracking aspects of the community, and then we’ll be all set!
Thanks Jun for and your teams continued hard work.

I’m not seeing the one big improvement I was hoping for; better anti-spam tools. mt 5.04, even with the built-in captcha, has little or no anti-spam in effect at all.
That’s the one big area I was looking for help in, and all I see is interface twiddling.
