We've had many reports of the following error during installation:
Can't upgrade that kind of scalar at lib/MT/App/Upgrader.pm line 153.
If you've been blocked from installation by this error we'd like to hear from since we are gathering data on the issue. When reporting the bug it would be very helpful for us to know:
* Platform OS (Linux, Windows, FreeBSD, etc.) * Database you are using and version (MySQL 4.1 for example) * Whether your server/hosting provider are running any technologies such as FastCGI or cgiwrap. * And, as always, a link to your mt-check.cgi (or a copy and paste to email) are very, very helpful.
And, of course, if you have encountered this bug, please accept our apologies--we know how annoying it is to get psyched about a new piece of software and then not be able to try it out.
Update: Brad Choate has now checked in a fix for the issue, which I have verified. If you have experienced this bug and would like to try out the fix, please get in touch with me via the feedback form and I will make it available to you.
Hello from Norway :) A newbie question. I am new in coding but I am very passionate to learn how to deal with the code. This is why I start using Moveable Type. So the question :) What is mt-check.cgi?
This information I believe is a bit old. You don’t need to provide any information here, because Moveable Type is connected with FogBugz. It happened few years ago and all bugs tracking are made through them.
Hello Mina, you need to know that mt-check.cgi refers to Common Gateway Interface. According to Wikipedia it is a method for web server software to delegate the generation of web content to executable files.
AugustineP - a hint from a newbie here :) As far as I read Movable Type and a system from finding bugs FoxBugz I think was the name have agreed for a cooperation. So you need to have an account for this system and to put there the bugs found by you. Hope that helps :)

Well, I use Windows XP, MySQL 5.6 and I have no idea about the gadjets my host provider uses.

Isn’t it better to have a FAQ page where all common mistakes and bugs are listed, so everyone could have a look on it and solve the problem?

There is such page. Simply search on the search bar at right for FAQ page and you will find it.

I remember the upgrading process at that time and I recall quite well I haven’t had any problem doing it. Everything ran smoothly.
