Deploying Profiles and Friending Capabilities

Movable Type comes equipped with the option to offer your users the choice of maintaining a profile locally on your web site or blog. When you install Movable Type Pro, the templates needed in support of all aspects of managing a profile are installed for you automatically. These templates are:

  • Profile Edit Form - governs the form used by users to create and edit their profile
  • Profile View - governs the look and feel of each users profiles.
  • Profile Feed - an Atom feed published for each user that lists each user’s activity on the system in XML
  • Profile Error - governs the look and feel of the screen that is presented to the user when an error occurs while editing and making changes to their profile.

There are no templates you need to install manually in order to take advantage of Movable Type profiles. However, it is highly probable that your existing templates do not yet link to profiles published by Movable Type. Therefore, you may want to edit the links associated with the by-lines for commenters and authors to link to their Movable Type profile as opposed to their Profile URL.
