category selections not persisting

Asked by eggre

Ever since my paid upgrade to 5.2, any category selections I make do not persist when I save a post. However, categories I’d selected pre-upgrade are still honored. Any ideas?

There was a bug is some earlier versions that did this - it was actually browser specific if I recall. What browser are you using? Whatever it is, try a different one if you can. Believe it or not it might do the trick. I will look for the definitive answer though - but I remember I had to actually edit one of MT’s templates to fix this issue.

Right you are, Anthony. Chrome works fine. I was using Firefox. Thanks so much!

Here is a link to the same issue from several years ago:

This was a problem that occurred in older versions of Movable Type 5.2 and earlier. If you upgrade your Movable Type instance, the problem should resolve itself.

We recommend this because versions of Movable Type 5.2 prior to 5.2.9 have known security vulnerabilities. Upgrading would kill two birds with one stone.

If you cannot upgrade for some reason, the patches you need for the older versions of Movable Type are listed here, http://movabletype.org/news/2012/10/patchfileforfirefox16.html.
