Project Status

The Movable Type Open Source Project is still in the process of evolving to meet our users needs. As a result some aspects of the project are still in flux and/or being developed. This page is meant to give an overview of the project's road map and milestones, the status of each, and when we think they will be completed. In time, all of these issues will be addressed by Six Apart and the Community. In the mean time, use this page to track the progress of each of the major tasks associated with fully realizing the Movable Type Open Source Project.

MTOS Availability

  • Status: Complete

MTOS is now available through subversion. Nightly builds are available as well.

Nightly Builds

  • Status: Complete

Check the nightly build directory for updates shortly after midnight.

To improve further on this process, we should:

  • only publish builds if they have changed
  • create symlinks to the latest build

Subversion Code Repository

  • Status: Complete

Primary development of Movable Type has been successfully migrated to the public subversion repository. As of the first code push, the active development branch is release-NN.

Stable Builds

  • Status: Available
  • Release Date: January 24, 2008

You can download the latest stable release from our download page.

Bug Tracking System

  • Status: In development
  • Projected Release Date: Early February

Our original plan called for Six Apart to maintain two instances of our bug tracking system, one accessible only to Six Apart employees and the other for the MTOS project. Late in the game we decided that that plan didn't scale well to meet the needs of our core engineering and QA team. So we decided to opt for a single FogBugz instance to manage all MT case data. This introduced additional requirements around security and privacy which need to be addressed prior to a release.

In the meantime, bug reports can be submitted through the regular feedback form which will get input into our internal FogBugz instance. Eventually that data will be made public when we migrate to the new FogBugz install. We ask for your continued patience as we work out these details with our case management process - we are well aware that full transparency to active cases and known issues is paramount to the success of MTOS.

Update: December 20, 2007 - an error occurred in our initial export of our MT bug database, delaying the process. Chris Hall will be working over the holidays on this project to bring the public bug repos online ASAP.

Update: January 24, 2008 - with the first official stable release of MTOS, getting a public bug tracking system could not be a higher priority. We continue to thank you for your patience as we complete our migration.

Contribution Policy

  • Status: Posted.

A copy of the MTOS Contribution Agreement is now available. Feedback is welcome and encouraged.

Support Forums

  • Status: In pilot
  • Projected Launch Date: Unknown

In conjunction with the launch of the Movable Type Open Source Project we are also piloting a new set of forums set up to help support the community in their use of the software. It is our goal to use these forums on an on-going basis for more then just MTOS.
