Managing Pages

Any user may edit or delete pages that they themselves have created. Additionally, with the Edit all entries privilege (assigned by a System Administrator), a user can edit any pages in the weblog for which they have this permission.

The Manage Pages Screen

The Manage Pages screen is the primary dashboard used to access and manage your pages. Although more information about each individual page can be obtained or edited through the page editing screen accessible through the linked title, there are a number of actions you can take right from the page listing screen.

To reach the manage pages screen for an individual blog, click on Manage > Pages from Movable type's main menu.

Note: You can also manage pages for all blogs on the system. To do that, go to the System Overview area of Movable Type and click on Manage > Pages from the main menu.

The listing table on the Manage Pages screen contains the following items:

  • Page Status: Pages are either published or unpublished. Clicking an entry's corresponding status icon applies a view filter to your page listing table showing you only pages of that particular status.

  • Page Title: Click on the page title will take you to the Edit Page screen for that entry.

  • Folder: The folder the page has been assigned to.

  • Last Modified: The date the page was last edited by a user.

  • View: Clicking on the icon in the view column will open the published entry in a new window.

Filtering your list of pages

You can filter your list of pages on the Manage Pages screen using the Quickfilters tool on the right-hand side of the screen, or through the filter bar at the top of the listing screen.

Quickfilters

The Quickfilters tool enables you to filter the list of entries to views of:

  • Published pages
  • Unpublished pages
  • Scheduled pages (pages that are scheduled to be published in the future)
  • My Pages (pages you have authored)
  • Pages with comments in the last seven days

Additionally, you can subscribe to an Atom feed of new pages created in the system by clicking on the "Pages Feed" link in the Quickfilters section.

The filter bar

The page listing table also allows you to create a custom filter of your pages. To change your current filter and apply a new one, click on the change link in the filter bar.

This will expose options in the page filter bar.

With the page filter bar you can filter on:

  • Status: published or unpublished pages
  • User: the user who created the page
  • Tag (exact match): filter pages that are tagged with a particular word, based on an exact match
  • Tag (fuzzy match): filter pages that are tagged with a particular word, based on a fuzzy match. With a "fuzzy match" you can enter a partial string of a tag, and it will match any tags that contain that partial string.
  • Folder

Customizing your page listing display

The Display Options tool on the right hand side of the screen enables you to customize your page listing screen. To open the Display Options tool, click on the link "Display Options." The options available for customization are:

  • The number of rows to display
  • Whether the view of page rows is "compact" or "expanded." The compact mode is displayed above and is the default for new blogs; the expanded view shows the title and an excerpt of the entry in addition to the other fields.
  • Whether your action bar is at the top of the bottom
  • Whether your dates are formatted as "full" or displayed in relative terms compared to the current time.

Editing pages

  • To edit a page, click on its page title. This will take you to the Edit Page screen.

Deleting pages

  • To delete a page, click on the checkbox to the left of the page title to select the page, then click the "Delete" button in the action bar. The system will ask you to confirm your action.
  • After you have confirmed your action, the system will delete the page from the datbase, and prompt you to publish your site to have the changes reflected on your published blog.

Publishing pages

  • To publish a page, click on the checkbox to the left of the page title to select the page, then click on the "Republish" button in the action bar. The system will immediately publish / republish the page or pages you've selected.

Unpublishing pages

  • To unpublish pages, click on the checkbox to the left of the entry title to select the page.
  • Select "Unpublish Pages" from the "More actions..." menu and click the "Go" button.
  • The system will remove the individual pages from the filesystem, and set the entry status to "Unpublished."
